30 degrees

Wow, 30 degrees must be global warming now that the milk cow is here....  lol  We bought her Saturday and hauled her home.  She is not impressed to say the least.  My thought was that she would buddy up on the fence with the range cows that are here in the meadows but they wanted nothing to do with her and I don't think she wanted anything to do with them.  She really does not like the butcher pig Grumpy.  I don't want to put her out in the meadows with the range cattle so kept her in the sorting  corrals all in all it is about a 2 acre piece.  Yikes!  She just ran and worried herself for 3 days and since she is bred the stress is not good.  This morning I put her in the small corral next to the barn where I kept the colt at night.  OK, this is much better.  She settle down long enough to drink and eat.  I have left the stall open and put feed in there in hopes she would find the comforts of home.  She was eating her grain but that was about it.  She is now eating her hay also and took a big long drink of water.  She feels better now and so do I!  Her name was Lily but I changed it to Bess.  My grandfather had a nice dairy cow named Bess.  I had a JRT until she passed away last year at 16 and her name was Lily.  In my life there is only one Lily and she has gone to chase rodents and take naps in the sun.

Yesterday I finished the long leg of the fence at the Riverside house, aka Dad's house.  There is a picture of the house when we first started working on it in another entry.  I worked from sun up to sun down.  I only have one more leg and it will be finished.  It looks so nice.  Next to work on the plumbing.  I know it seems like a strange time to do plumbing but with haying starting in May and ending in October days and nights are long.  I am sure that is where the saying came from, "Making hay while the sun shines"

Well off to work my weekend is over.

The fixer upper on Riverside.  It is so exciting to see it all change.  Thank you God, Thank you Dad!
26 degrees

Oh the first snow, just a skiff but her grace is on her way.  I hope she will take pity on us this winter and not drift us in.  I wonder how in olden days they viewed these days.

The cows breached the fence yesterday and are hunting green.  Now that the snow is covering the ground I am sure it will be an everyday occurrence.  The pig is snuggled in his hay bed in the barn and will soon be breaking water every morning for him.  The steer will be here this weekend so another mouth to feed but we have plenty of hay in the big barn for him.  I know it seems weird but I love mucking stalls in the winter.

This weekend will bring the finish of the fence at the house on Riverside.  I hate using the chainsaw over my head on the tops of the posts but there is only about 20 to go.  I hope to put some pictures on this weekend.  Will see what time allows.

bye till tomorrow.

23 degrees

Looking forward to the weekend, mine starts Saturday.  Yesterday was hard watching a Mother with so much sorrow.  Sorrow is so devastating.  It seems we can bounce back from so many things as humans, but sorrow changes your life and leaves scars that are there for life.  We wear it inside and on our face.  You can look at someone and see they have faced great sorrow.  A deep look into their eyes and it is etched there.  I have had some deep sorrow as many have.

On a brighter side the mouse traps were empty today so no chicken football...  That is what my husband calls it.  If you have never seen a chicken take a mouse or anything really into its beak that is flailing around and watch the other chickens try to tackle her, it is quite amusing.

Bills to pay today, shopping list, weekend lists to compile and some time for me to work on the vintage camp trailer I bought this summer.  I am going to try to work on the picture thing and see if I can figure out K's vs mg's...

Blessed be your day.........

Nov. 1st and 34 degrees

Today will be a hard day!  Work for awhile and then to a funneral.  This is a young man that has gone home.  I am sad for those left behind, so blessed that they have their faith.  I can't even begin to imagine loosing one of my children or grandchildren.  Again, going home and how can you be sad for those going home?  The hearts that break and yearn.  Love to all and be safe today.

Boo!  38 degrees

Early to work today, training...  I often wonder where my 6'foot leather leash, training collar and treats are.  Humans are not really trained the and lulled or conjoled into another way of thinking.

I have recently in a round about way connected with a sporting dog judge that I went High In Trial under in 1987!  She co-owns a dog from Heads Up Kennel.  We will be getting a pup from them in January.  A trip I am not looking forward to that time of year as they are in BC!

As of late, living on a ranch and in a 100 yr old house, and the time of year the mice have decide to share residance, NOT!  I am at a total of 4 in the stone storage room that stores my canned goods.  No damage as I am always on the lookout for them there.  2 adult males, 1 adult female and 1 juv. female, at least they were and are longer are....

Well off to work, thanks for being here Blog....

Good morning! 10/30/2012  cloudy but warm
I really need to figure out the picture thing on here!  I would love to share some pics.

I had 9 Cat Spiders this year on the front porch.  One has laid her egg sac under the eaves.  That has never happen before.  She is very thin and frail looking but when I gently blow on her each morning she is still alive.  The others are still nice and fat but really no bugs to speak of for them to feed on.  I do still leave the porch lights on for awhile at night just in case a flying insect comes through.  It will all unfold as it is meant and I am lucky enough to watch their story.

Lately our little town in the Oregon outback has sent some young men home.  One a few weeks ago leaving 5 children and a wife.  One on Sat. night.  Another a month ago, he was a Grandfather and father.  2 on the same stretch of road.  The one on Sat. night left us not but 100 yards or less from where the Grandfather that passed lived!  The 2 young men and their families were deeply rooted in their faith of God.  Such a blessing...  I have known both since they were wee folk....  Tears for those left behind.

Question of the day:
When those grieving are inundated with food which then becomes its own stressor what to bring?

Burns, Oregon   10/29/2012  60 degrees and windy.....
OK, 1,2,3 blog easy?  Really?  I got this far I guess, so YEAH!

After 8 days in the forest, no elk, rats!  Thank goodness there is a pig in the barn and a butcher steer on the way.  There is always eggs and chickens.

Yesterday while picking up the leaves I found a dandelion, in full bloom.  I think they are pesky but reminded me of how yellow, yellow can be.  I had an idea and I think it will work out great.  I used the leaves for flooring in the chicken coop and spread them around the chicken yard.  Last year the winter side of the chicken yard produced a nice crop of banana and Hubbard squashes this summer.  All by accident but don't we learn from those?  When I move the chickens next year to the summer yard after it floods will be planting a few of my own squash in that winter pen.  Good job girls and thanks for the squash!

Question of the Day:
Do you think that when we die we are just going home?
